Crafts Interview: Working on the Land – Philippa Lawrence

The July/August issue of Crafts magazine, available at Howard Gardens and Llandaff libraries, features an interview with CSAD Senior Lecturer Pip Lawrence.

In addition, Pip will be taking part in an exhibition at Salts Mill, West Yorkshire: Cloth & Memory{2}. A total of 23 emerging and established international artists have created site-specific works inspired by, and in response to, the World Heritage site.  The exhibition runs from the 18th August – 3rd November 2013. More information on the Cloth & Memory website.

The catalogue for this exhibition is on order for the library.  If you would like to know more about the extraordinary site of the exhibition at Saltaire, this 50 minute DVD: The Story of Saltaire, can be borrowed from Howard Gardens Library.

Art Source and AP Images on trial – check them out!

For one month only, Cardiff Met Libraries are trialling two new electronic resources for all Cardiff Met students and staff.  We introduce you to…  Art Source and API Images

Art Source

This is a huge arts-focussed journal article database and an upgrade from the already excellent Art Full Text. From Art Source, you can read whole articles from over 300 Art & Design titles, including 70 full text journals that already exist in Art Full Text. 

New journal titles in Art Source include:

  • Critical Studies in fashion and Beauty

  • Poster

AP Images

To explore a range of high quality photographs from across the globe, check out Associated Press Images (API).  Here you can find a huge range of contemporary and archival news photographs of important events and people.  You can find good examples of indigenous costumes and traditions, photographs of art installations & galleries around the world.  And there are plenty of photographs for those still reminiscing about the fantastic Welsh Six Nations rugby victory in February. 

The trial for both Art Source and AP Images end on 31st May.  So have a browse and let us know what you think on the feedback form.

Berlin

There’s just one more day left to see the Self-Study Display in Howard Gardens Library which features many different aspects of Berlin.  There is a selection of books, journals and DVDs on topics such architecture, art, culture, history, politics, modernism & museums. The Brothers Grimm and other fairy tales

Ahead of the Beyond the Border festival in June we have a selection of books and journal articles displayed on the self-study stand relating to fairy tales – in particular those of the Brothers Grimm.  As well as those shown here, also included are books of contemporary tales, essays and commentary about fairy tales.  These can be reserved and will be available from Friday 25th May.
