All the books in the current display on the ground floor of Llandaff Library are from our Artists’ Books Collection and have been created by Richard Cox, who donated them to our growing collection.
Richard Cox studied Fine Art for 8 years, moving to Wales and living here since1975. He has a background in teaching in various Art Schools in the UK and abroad, including as visiting lecturer at the RCA, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, Kunstakademiet i Trondheim and Delhi College of Art. He was Visual Arts Officer at The Arts Council of Wales, running the Artist in Residence programme between 1983 and 1998.
Recent Solo shows include “Subterranean Architecture: Stepwells in Western India” which has toured to 14 exhibition venues in the UK and India since 2008 and was shown at the Tamarind Gallery NYC and at Monclair State University, NJ in 2012. His most recent solo exhibition “1569” was seen at Aberystwyth University School of Art and Museum in 2015 and at Art Central in Barry in 2016. His work is represented in 27 public collections which include The National Museum of Wales, The Arts Council of Wales, Newport Museum, The British Council, New Delhi, The State Museum at Majdanek, Poland, Delhi College of Art, Bemis Centre for Contemporary Art USA, State of Rajasthan and at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
In January 2017 together with Sue Hunt (Senior Lecturer in Fine Art, Cardiff School of Art & Design) he is taking the international touring exhibition “Open Books” to the State Academy of Art in Rajasthan. This exhibition originated by Mary Husted has toured in China, Australia, Hong Kong and Canada.
He was a Senior Lecturer in Cardiff School of Art & Design and Director of Howard Gardens Gallery from 2004 to 2013.
